Exatron PI Design Rules
Standard Process for PI Jobs

1. Artwork for EPP Job

    A. Customer Supplied Artwork
Most PI jobs will begin with customer-supplied PCB fabrication information. This should include gerber data, fab drawings, drill plots, etc. Specific recommendations for PI designs will be set out below.

Exatron will make our best effort to find errors in customer generated artwork before beginning the fabrication process. However, Exatron specifically disclaims any warranty for any customer-supplied artwork. If the board does not work because the artwork was incorrect, the customer is responsible for the error. In addition, errors due to incomplete, inaccurate, or confusing customer supplied information will also be the responsibility of the customer.

It is critical for the customer to supply an area measurement of the total exposed area to be PI plated. This measurement allows much finer control of the plating process and will improve plating quality.

    B. Exatron Design Service
Exatron offers a design service to assist customers in the development of PI contactors. The Exatron service is limited to fairly simple circuitry and does not include design of complex, multi-layer, or high-performance (RF) boards.

    C. Pre-fabricated Boards
Exatron on occasion will EPP plate a PCB supplied by an outside PCB vendor. We promise only our "best effort" to properly plate the PCB. Due to the myriad of possible errors that would be outside of our control, PI will be supplied "AS IS" back to the vendor and to the customer. Exatron specifically disclaims any warranty for PI when applied to outside manufactured PCB's. Please contact Exatron for further information on the logistics of particlizing pre-fabricated PCB's.

In any case with pre-fabricated boards, Exatron has two strict requirements:

    1. Customer must supply exact measurement of total exposed area to be particalized

    2. Customer must supply "practice" board for test particlization. This board need only have the same PI pattern for plating as the "real" board. The practice board need not be drilled, and need not be the same substrate material as the real board. This practice board is indispensible in "dialing in" the plating process and prevents unnecessary losses on production panels. Call Exatron for details.

2. Manufacturing Process
Exatron makes every effort to expeditiously turn around all jobs. When Exatron quotes a delivery date, that date should be taken as a window, any time before which delivery may be possible. Unless specifically directed by the customer, Exatron will use its best judgement to scheduling actual production of PI jobs.

As a corollary to this rule, the customer is responsible for jobs fully or partially completed before the due date if those jobs are cancelled. A prorated amount will be charged in the event of a cancellation if work has already begun.

If the customer requires expidited turn-around on orders, they must notify Exatron at time of ordering. This may require an additional charge.

3. Quality Testing
A coverage QA inspection occurs with every PI job. If specified at time of order, Exatron can supply a detailed photographic record of your job. This may include an additional charge.
