Exatron Products - I.C. Handlers
Pick & Place - Benchtop: Model 800 Handlers
Overview

The 800 Series handlers are configured for two, three or four trays. The system will take standard JEDEC outline trays, as well as waffle pack and custom trays. The trays are manually-loaded.

Each tray is moved by a servo motor driving a precision lead screw to which the tray carriage is attached. The tray carriage is supported by a pair of precision linear bearings. Each tray platform is loaded manually and trays are retained by a spring-tension device to assure the tray is square and tight on the platform.

The perpendicular axis also incorporates a servo-motor driven lead screw to carry the pick up head carriage across the trays and over the test site(s) or other optional features. The pick up head uses a stepper motor to move the pick up arm up and down in fine steps.

The system can incorporate various features, including single or multiple test sites, lead and/or mark inspection, label application, tape and reel output, etc.

The Model 800 incorporates an internal controller which holds the motion control software and two tray configurations. If the tray configuration is correct, the system can run without any external control (excepting control of external features such as programmers). Internal control includes a series of diagnostics to assure the motors are working properly, interface protocols are working, sensors and valves are functional, etc.

Each 800 series handler comes with a Windows '95 program to allow easy defining and downloading of JEDEC tray information (columns, rows, pitch, offset, etc.). In addition, as Exatron builds a library of JEDEC tray definitions, we will supply these as well, ready made.

Not shown in any of the photos are safety covers that come standard with the 800. These covers protect the trays and can be extended if necessary for the test/programming/inspection sites. The covers are interlocked so that if the operator opens the trays, the motors will turn off and stop. Because the motors are servo motors, when the interlock is reengaged the motors will continue to their correct position.
