The L3 is the newest generation of gravity feed label application systems available from Exatron. The L3 is Exatron's first ever handler designed specifically and exclusively to apply labels to IC packages. The L3 sets the new standard for low-cost, fast throughput label application. At a throughput of approximately 3600 labeled devices per hour, the L3 runs rings around any other label application machine in our price range.

One unique feature of the L3 is the use of moving tubes for the output of the system. All other Exatron handlers use a shuttle to move single devices to stationary output tubes based on a test result for that device. Given that the L3 has no programming or test function, there is no need for the sorting and thus no need for a shuttle. By moving the tubes, there is always an empty tube directly under the label site, eliminating the time penalty of moving a shuttle.

The L3 uses the same Zebra 90Xi2 label printer as the Model 3000BL and uses the same wide variety of stock labels and ribbons. Owners of 3000BLs and L3s can maintain a common set of consumables for both machines. As always, custom labels are available upon request.

Label placement with the L3 can be adjusted in the lateral dimension in steps of as little as .002" and the up-down positioning of the IC itself is infinitely adjustable.
