Model O/S-2048 Opens & Shorts Tester

The Model O/S-2048 Open/Short Tester is used to test packaged devices for open and/or shorted lead bonds and leakage currents. With very fast test times, less than 2 seconds for 2048-pin devices, the Model O/S-2048 is ideal for your open/short testing needs.

With Internet access, the Model O/S-2048 can be remotely controlled by Exatron engineers. This enables easy software updates and servicing without the need to send an Exatron field service representative.

How It Works

  1. Start with up to 2048 channels/pins
  2. Connect every pin on the DUT through a 1K current limit resistor
  3. Apply 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, or 5.0V to one pin
  4. Connect all other pins to ground
  5. Measure current flowing into or out of the pin (to +/-10 µAmps)
  6. Move to the next pin
  7. Data log the results
  8. Repeat this test for a number of DUTs; use the data log to generate a test program

* Exatron builds test sockets that match JEDEC tray pocket pitch. Our sockets are repairable and easily cleaned. We build in DUT-precising features to guarantee jam-free operation. We build for 2 mm CSPs to 70mm BGAs and everything in between.

System UPH Assumptions

  • The handler picks up one entire row of parts from a JEDEC tray in one pick – one cycle
  • The row of devices is then tested as “one part” in less than 2 seconds
  • The total pin count in one row cannot exceed 2048 pins
  • Lower total pin counts only increase UPH
  • The system can pick up, test, and sort one row in less than 6 seconds (95% good)
  • The ping-pong system with two testers doubles the UPH
